For over three decades, my heart has been deeply invested in the spiritual formation of children. My journey began in my teenage years as a Sunday School teacher. Since then, I've had the privilege of guiding young lives in various settings: as a camp counselor, a camp chaplain, a Sunday School teacher across many age groups, within the school system, and in the vibrant atmosphere of a daycare. These experiences have woven a rich tapestry, bringing me into contact with children from all ethnic backgrounds and every socio-economic level.
Summer Sunday School
Through these years, one core conviction has consistently guided my approach, particularly within the church context: to create a sanctuary where children feel unequivocally safe and know, deep in their hearts, that the church is their place – where they truly belong. I believe fostering this sense of belonging is foundational to any meaningful spiritual growth. When children feel secure and accepted, they are more open to exploring their faith and building a relationship with God.
My teaching often centers around the powerful stories and timeless wisdom found within the Bible. I strive to make these passages accessible and relevant to young minds, focusing particularly on how they illuminate what it means to be a good neighbor. This extends beyond those like us; it encompasses everyone, especially those who might seem different. By exploring biblical narratives of compassion, empathy, and love for all, I aim to cultivate a heart that embraces diversity in children and actively seeks to build bridges of understanding.
Training Kids to Lead Worship
It's a joy to witness a child's innate curiosity and blossoming faith. My role is not to simply impart doctrines but to nurture the seeds of wonder, encourage their questions, and help them discover the love of God that embraces all of creation. By creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment, I trust that these young hearts will grow into individuals who not only know the teachings of Jesus but also embody his spirit of love and neighborliness in the world.
